Church In The World
Faith’s work of Church in the World takes place through the Social Ministry team. Our Social Ministry mission is to support our local community and the regional, national, and global agencies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) in the Christian spirit of reaching out to those in need. Our congregational benevolence giving supports the mission of Social Ministry.
Our congregation reaches out in several ways. We feed the hungry homeless by providing dinners for Camp Unity, Tent City and Congregations for the Homeless housed at local churches. We support Hopelink’s ministry of helping the hungry of Seattle’s Eastside by sponsoring tables at their annual fund raising luncheon and we have an ongoing collection for the local food bank. We have a Back to School Drive each August to provide supplies for students at Redmond Elementary.
Faith sponsors an apartment unit at the YWCA Family Village. When a family moves out of the apartment, we supply the apartment with food, kitchen supplies, and other items to welcome a homeless family. During the Christmas Season, there is a Giving Tree in our Narthex to provide gifts for our YWCA family, Friends of Youth, and Imagine Housing families. We gather, wrap and deliver these gifts. In March we hold a drive to collect clothing for Baby Corner of Issaquah. Faith Lutheran's quilting group also donates baby quilts.
Our NW Washington Synod of the ELCA provides many services to state and global agencies. Benevolence dollars are designated for synod use as well as Lutheran World Hunger, Campus Ministries, Lutheran Community Services, and Lutheran World Relief.
Social Ministry is about relationships: our relationship to God, our relationship to our church, our relationship to each other and to those in need.
If you have gifts in these areas of serving those in need, we would love you to share them with us! Just let us know!
